The movie
Titanik is a 1953 American drama film. Jean Negulesco directed it.
Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck are the leading actors.
The film tells the story of the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanik in April 1912. As it is well known, the voyage ended with the catastrophic sinking of Titanik in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Apparently, as in other films, whose stories are based on true events, the majority of what is portrayed in the film is either dramatically exaggerated or inaccurate.
The film gained the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
The scene
The musicians of the Titanik continue to play. The urban myth attributes this to a rather simple ignorance of what is happening.
In fact, the real intention was to encourage the passengers at this tragic situation, as the lifeboats were not enough for all of them.
As the ship is about to sink, the passengers and the crew that have remained are singing the hymn “Nearer, my God, to Thee”.

As the boilers explode, Titanik’ bow submerges. It rapidly slides into the icy water.
The survivors are watching in horror from lifeboats floating in the night.
As down breaks, they are awaiting for their rescue.
This scene is one of the most touching and heroic scenes in the film history.
In 1997 a film with the same title was released, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, which had a great success.
