George Chronas, a Greek author, in his interview (Greek TV Channel ET1, Studio 4 show) reminded me that Beatles said that they were more famous than Jesus.
In fact, it was John Lennon who said that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.” When did he say so? In his March 1966 interview to the London Evening Standard newspaper.
Lennon’s comment caused protests. Thus, he later clarified that he was referring to the decline of Christianity and the growing popularity of rock and roll.
Nevertheless, the question of whether the Beatles are more famous (= had or have a greater reputation) than Jesus remains unanswered.
Reputation or Fame is what is said or reported about the name of a person or object. Today, we can objectively quantify reputation by the frequency with which that name appears in various sources, one of which is books.
The Figure below shows that Beatles are by no means more famous than Jesus. In recent years the fame of Beatles, 274 famons, is at least 30 times smaller than that of Jesus, which amounts 8575 famons.
Yet, the fame of Beatles is much higher than that of 90 artists, their fame of which ranged from 0.8 famons, for Emma Stone, to 60 famons for Bob Dylan.
