Searching for actresses and actors more famous than Monroe and Wayne
In this post I present the results of the Ngram analysis for six classic Hollywood icons that have been listed in the AFI greatest actors and actresses:
- Marx Brothers
- Buster Keaton
- Sidney Poitier
- Robert Mitchum
- Ava Gardner
- Jean Harlow.

Among them Marx Brothers are the most famous with 14 famons. Buster Keaton follows with 10 famons. Groucho Marx and Keaton have an Academy honorary award.
Sidney Poitier, who has an Oscar for Best Actor, has a fame 8 famons, similar to that of Ava Gardner. Robert Mitchum and Jean Harlow follow, with 6 and 5 famons, respectively.
All the names of the six actors and actresses appear in the English electronic books between late 1910s to 1945 and time appearances generally follow their careers (e.g., their first appearance on the large screen).
None of the above actors and actresses are more famous than Monroe and Wayne, as it is shown in the following graph that summarizes all Ngram searches so far. Note that Sinatra closely follows the fame stars, Monroe and Wayne.
