Smart plugs and switches are important elements of the smart home cinema.

Sonoff wall switches are cheap and versatile smart switches that can be operated through Alexa, Google Home, Smartthings, Home Assistant as well as the good EwELink app.

All of these platforms allow the build of automations that contribute to the smart home cinema experience.

I have used six or seven Sonoff wall switches without a problem for the last several years. However, the last two months three of them (i.e., about 50%) malfunctioned. Two were not functional at all. Thus, they were replaced.

One switch lost only its connection to Wi-Fi. Yet, it still functions as a switch. In this case the blue light flashes instead of being permanently on.

Although the cost of these switches is relatively low, the high percentage of failure is unacceptable.

Smart home industry has to take into consideration the long term durability of their products should people move towards this smart direction.
