In a series of earlier posts, I used Ngram in order to identify the fame of iconic actresses and actors from Hollywood.
The vast majority of actresses and actors have fame levels smaller than 20 famons. Elvis Presley is the most famous actor, 53 famons. He is closely followed by Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra. All four of them are world symbols.
How famous are the protagonists of the Good, The Bad and the Ugly
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a 1966 western movie directed by Sergio Leone. The cast includes Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef.
The search of Ngram for these three names showed that:
- Clint Eastwood has the highest fame, 25 famons, followed by
- Eli Walache , 2 famons and
- Lee Van Cleef, 1.8 famons.
The names of Wallach and Van Cleef appear in the English electronic books after the 1940s and 1950s, respectively. The name of Eastwood appears in the books in the mid 1950s. Moreover, the frequency of appearance of their names increases sharply after these dates.
This increase agrees with their first appearances on the screen (i.e., in 1951 and 1952 for Wallach, mainly on TV, and Van Cleef, respectively, in 1955 for Eastwood). The earlier appearance of Wallace in the books is attributed to his stage appearance which took place in 1945.
Eastwood has a fame similar to that of Arnie and ranks in the first 10 positions.
