Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are all iconic action heroes for the 1980s and 1990s. Each one has its own idiosyncrasy and personal style of acting. Yet, all three have contributed some of the best action movies ever made, which are nowadays considered classic.
In the last decades, Willis and Stallone enjoy a fame of about 10 famons whereas Schwarzenegger’s fame reaches 25 famons (see previous post).
But how do these figures compare to those of other people?
Let’s see.
Two other actors of action movies that appeared in the 1980s were the martial artists Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme. They both keep acting in action movies.
Steven Seagal
Seagal appeared in the action scene in 1988 with the movie Above The Law. Since then, he was the protagonist in several action movies in the 1980s and 1990s. Some of his best ones are:
- Hard to Kill
- Marked for Death
- Out for Justice
- Under Siege
- Under Siege 2
- Executive Decision
- The Glimmer Man
- Fire Down Below
- Exit Wounds.
Jean-Claude Van Damme
Van Damme’s main protagonist role was in the 1985 movie No Retreat, No Surrender. Since then, he was also the protagonist in several action movies in the 1980s and 1990s. Some of his best ones are:
- Bloodsport
- Lionheart
- Death Warrant
- Double Impact
- Universal Soldier
- Nowhere to Run
- Hard Target
- Timecop
- Sudden Death.
How famous are Seagal and Van Damme?
The appearance of their names in the books follows their acting career. Their fame increases from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s and smoothly declines thereafter.
This shows that Seagal their main contribution to the action movie scene was restricted to the 1980s and 1990s.
However, they both enjoy low fame levels when compared to those of Bruce, Sylvester and Arnold.
Their fame is around 2 famons for Seagal and somewhat less than 2 for Van Damme (i.e., 5 times less than that of Bruce/Sylvester and > 10 times less than Arnold’s).
More comparisons to follow.
Stay tuned.
