Ava Gardner was one of the most beautiful actresses of all time. Her striking beauty with dark hair and green eyes led her to sign a contract with MGM when she was only 18 years old.

She starred among others in Show Boat (1951), The Snows of Kilimanjaro (1952), Mogambo (1953) and The barefoot Contessa (1954).

James Mason achieved considerable success in British cinema before becoming a star in Hollywood.

His memorable voice and good looking aided in his development as a star.

He is well remembered among others for his performances in The Desert Fox (1951), Five Fingers (1952), Julius Ceasar (1953), A Star is Born (1954) and North by Northwest (1959).

In 1951 they both starred in a British romantic fantasy drama Pandora and the Flying Dutchman.

Albert Lewin wrote and directed the film.

The story is based on the legend of the Flying Dutchman. The latter also inspired Richard Wagner for his Opera with the same title.

The film was shot in Tossa de Mar, where there is now a statue of Ava Gardner.

Mason continued to make films till the 1980s. Gardner did so only sporadically.

The following scene of the film is one of the most romantic scenes in the history of cinema.
