There is a tendency, not to say regularity, for action actors like e.g.:
- Mark Wahlberg
- Dwayne Johnson
- John Cena
- Dave Bautista
- Ryan Reynolds
and others to be the protagonists in comedies with some action elements or in superhero movies.
I don’t know whether such comedy movies are profitable or not.
I don’t know whether the actors involved into such movies are paid well or not. I don’t also know whether the above mentioned actors think that by playing in comedies they show that are talented, more so than by playing in adventures.
Not only I don’t know the answer to the above questions but also I don’t care. I might research these questions in future posts.
What I know, however, is that I am missing the real action movies. I am missing adventures like, e.g.,:
- Die Hard
- Predator
- True lies
- Eraser
- Mercury Rising
- Rambo
- Commando
- Eraser
- The Rock
- Face off
- Cliffhanger
- Hitman’s Bodyguard
- Olympus has Fallen.
Arnie, Sly and Bruce were also involved in action comedies but this was the exception and not the pattern.
In addition, we don’t mind the penetration of elements of humor in the action movies. This is a necessary element and exists in all the movies mentioned above.
Gerald Butler is one of the few actors that has not been tempted by such a pattern. I hope that he will keep it this way.
I also hope that the cinema industry will find again its way back to real action movies.
