In a series of previous posts that started in January 2024, I have searched Ngram for the names of 54 iconic actors and actresses from the Hollywood era.
Among them Elvis Presley has the highest fame, 53 famons. He is closely followed by Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra. All of them are world symbols.
The vast majority of the stars checked so far, i.e. 41 out of the 54 (76%), have fame less than 20 famons.
How famous are the protagonists of Gilda
Giorgos Sourvanos wrote a post on the film Gilda.
Gilda is a 1946 American film noir directed by Charles Vidor. The main cast includes Rita Hayworth, Glenn Ford and George Macready. Lets see how famous the protagonists of Gilda are.
The search of Ngram for the three names showed that:
- Rita Hayworth has the highest fame, 8.7 famons, followed by
- Glenn Ford, 3.1 famons and
- George Macready, 0.8 famons.
The names of the three protagonists of the film Gilda appear in the English electronic books after the 1920s., with the exception of Glenn Ford. The name Glenn Ford appears in the books as early as in the 1880s. This early appearance obviously refers to another person. The actor Glenn Ford was born on 1916.
Yet, the frequency of appearance of the names of the three protagonists increase after the mid 1930s, for Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford, and after the earlies 1940s, for George Macready.
This increase agrees with their first appearances on the screen (i.e., in 1934, 1937 and 1942 for Rita Hayworth, Glenn Ford and George Macready, respectively).
